WES Verification Process

Trusted Advice for Applicant Success
WES Process “On Hold:
The status “WES is waiting for your institution(s) to verify your documents” will appear in your My Account when WES sends photocopies of your documents for verification to the institution that issued them. WES is committed to maintaining the integrity of the evaluation process by ensuring that evaluations are based on authentic documents. As a result, WES may send documents for verification. Below are the most common reasons for document verification:
- Due to increased fraud, WES is compelled to conduct a secondary verification of documents. This is common in countries like India, China, and Pakistan, where fraudulent documents are widespread.
- Documents received by WES are different from those typically received from the same institution or educational system.
- Information on the documents does not match the information provided in the WES application. In cases where people forge degrees, transcripts are often altered to match, which triggers WES's verification process.
How does the WES verification process work?
WES sends photocopies of your documents both electronically and by standard postal mail to the issuing institution or authority with a letter requesting verification. Your file status will change to “On Hold” until verification is complete.
As soon as the institution verifies the documents in writing, WES proceeds with the evaluation and issues the evaluation report. No evaluation report can be issued until WES receives verification from the institution.
How long will my application remain in verification status?
Response times from institutions vary, and verification may take from a few days to several weeks. If WES does not receive a response within seven weeks, another request will be automatically sent to the institution.
What do I need to do?
Generally, you don’t need to take any action during this process, but there are two exceptions:
- If your institution requires a fee for the verification service, you will need to pay the fee directly to the institution.
- If your institution needs authorization from you to verify your documents, WES will notify you to contact your institution and grant permission.
Though the verification process can take time, the benefits include an accurate and verified WES evaluation report, trusted and accepted by thousands of institutions in the U.S. and Canada.
