What is an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)?

With an Educational Credential Assessment, schools, businesses and other organizations in Canada compare the education you received in your home country with the education you received in Canada. It was originally used to verify the legitimacy of degrees, certificates, diplomas and other academic achievements. It can also be used to determine if your achievements are worth more or less than their Canadian counterparts.

Why is it important?

If you want to apply for immigration programmes in Canada, such as Express Entry and the Federal Skilled Workers Programme, the ECA is one of the most important documents you will need. You need an ECA if you want to get all the Comprehensive Ranking System points you are eligible for, and it does not only apply to the main applicant.
